FLAVOUR ORIGINS
Legend has it that green tea was discovered in 2737 BC when the Chinese Emperor Shennong drank hot water into which a green tea leaf had fallen by chance. Although it is made from the same plant as black tea, green tea is often considered purer as the leaves and buds undergo a production process that omits the initial wilting by heat and oxidation.
To this day, green tea is the most popular type of tea in Japan and parts of China, both as a ceremonial drink and for general enjoyment. It is appreciated for its refreshing taste, which has a combination of nutty and vegetal notes, as well as hints of fruit that have been described as reminiscent of grapes.
