FLAVOUR ORIGINS
Tiramisu - which means ‘‘pick me up’’ in Italian - has a history that is shrouded in mystery. Several regions of Italy claim to be the birthplace of this famed dessert, but the most reliable accounts point to 1960’s Veneto as its origin. It didn't take long for it to find worldwide acclaim and popularity shortly thereafter.
Its intoxicating recipe consists of sweet sponge biscuits dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar and mascarpone cheese, which is then finished off with a dusting of cocoa. The unique taste is sometimes complemented with flavoured liqueurs or spirits, creating a sublimely indulgent and grown-up version of the original.
