FLAVOUR ORIGINS
Sour cherries are believed to be native to Eastern Europe and Southwestern Asia, where they enjoy eating the fruit fresh.
The fruit trees were created through a natural cross between Prunus avium and Prunus fruticose cherries.
Selected for cultivation in the Early Ages and were a favoured cherry type in the Ancient Greek, Roman and Persian empires. Following this popularity, the fruits were later introduced into Western Europe, becoming a commercially produced variety in England and the United States.
Today, sour cherries are cultivated across many places, including Europe, the Middle East, Canada and the United State.
