FLAVOUR ORIGINS

The grapefruit is a subtropical citrus tree and an accidental hybrid between the sweet orange and the pomelo. Originating in Barbados, the first recorded description of the grapefruit was by naturalist Griffith Hughes, who referred to it as the “forbidden fruit” because he believed it to be the identity of the original tree in the Garden of Eden. Grapefruit varieties are differentiated by the colour of their flesh and flavours, which range from acidic and sour to sweet and tart. They are commonly enjoyed fresh as a compliment to breakfasts or salads, while some preparations cook them to remove their bitterness, rendering them as sweets for use in desserts. Mathieu Teisseire Pink Grapefruit Syrup expertly captures the delicious tart yet sweet flavours of this widely appreciated fruit. With a distinctively citrus nose balanced by both bitter and sweet notes, this wonderfully vibrant orange-pink syrup is a fantastic addition to a wide variety of cocktails, mocktails, wines, beers, sodas and teas.
