FLAVOUR ORIGINS

The blackcurrant also known as 'cassis' is a beautifully glossy, almost black fruit that grows on a woody shrub. Native to northern Europe and Asia, cultivation is thought to have started in the last decades of the 17th century. Rich in vitamin C, the blackcurrant was widely consumed when other fruits, such as oranges, became difficult to obtain in certain parts of the world during the 20th century and it's thought that this may have given rise to its lasting popularity.

Today, it remains a household favourite, used in both sweet and savoury dishes, such as jams, jellies, desserts and salads and as an accompaniment to both meat and fish. It's also the base for cordials, juices and smoothies and beautifully compliments one of the most famous champagne cocktails in the world – the Kir Royal.

Mathieu Teisseire Blackcurrant Syrup perfectly captures the fruity, rich and tart flavours of this prized berry. Add depth and character to smoothies, cocktails, ciders, beers milkshakes and more.
